大人が情熱を失う原因は，社会の構造か，個人のマインドセットか

昨日友人と飲んでた時の話です．友人が日本の社会人だった頃に関わっていた活動の話をしながら「社会人になって目が死んだやつが増えた，情熱をなくしたやつが増えた．それをどうにかしたいと思って仲間が集まったんです！」という情熱溢れる話を聞きました．友人が話してくれた活動は，新聞やネットの記事でも拝見したことがあったようなもので，とても素晴らしいなあ，と率直に驚きました．

このような「大人になって，子どもの時の情熱を失わない」というのは，私も常々そうありたいと思うところです．手前味噌ですが，私が「ザコ飲み」と称してやってる飲み会も「大人になる過程で獲得した立場とか，経験とか，知識とか，邪魔になりそうなものを取り払って，自分がまだザコキャラだった頃の，初心・童心に返って気持ち良く飲みたいね」という背景があります．友人の立派な活動と理念は共通していると言っても過言ではないでしょう！

という自己肯定感が不当に高い冗談はさておき，そもそも「社会の構成員が大人になると情熱を失いがちな社会」はつまらないと思います．そもそも，友人であれ僕であれ，若い世代にこのような問題意識を持たせる社会に，何らかの歪みがあるのかもしれません．一方で現実問題として，日本だけでなくアメリカだって他の国だって，程度の差こそあれ，そのような社会ばかりだと思います．

もちろん僕自身も，もう子どもではないですし，ぼんやりしてるように見えるかもしれませんが，競争とかノルマにさらされる社会人です．「忙殺される」「現実を見ろ」「生きていかなくては」などは当然わかりますし，組織（上司）の目指すところと，自分がやりたいことの乖離に悩むことだってあります．おそらくそういった社会的，組織的な要求が，逃れられない「構造」として大人の情熱を奪っているように思います．しかし一方で，だからと言って，何かを達成したいという情熱が自分から失われたとは思わないし，自分の力で（もちろん他者とのパートナーシップを通じてですが）それを達成できると信じられているのです．良くわかってないのですが，結局のところ，自分自身の「マインドセット」に帰する部分も大きいのではないでしょうか．

「ザコ飲み」の参加者は，アメリカ大学院の博士課程学生や，研究所勤務の人が多くて，贔屓目になりますが，社会の構造に負けず，自分の情熱などを持ち続けている人が多いように思います．これはある意味で環境に恵まれた幸運によるものですが，ある意味で自分から積極的にその状態を維持しているとも言えます．「研究者は自分のやりたいことやってるから・・・」みたいな説明は，５割くらい当を得ている気もするのですが，それだけでもないような気がしています．あまり分析はできてませんが，「ザコ飲み」参加者から，社会の構造に片足を掴まれつつも，個人の情熱を失わないヒントを見つけられるのではないか，と思います．なので気が向いた方は一緒にザコりましょう！

余談ですが，先日「ザコ飲み」系の友人らと話していた時，その場にいた10人程度の30歳前後の日本人のうち，エントリーシートを書いたことがある人が１人もおらず，全員で苦笑いしました．会社勤めをしたことがない事実を誇るつもりは全くありませんが，社会のメインストリームから「ザコ」扱いされても，自分が「ザコ」だった頃の情熱を失なわず，楽しく毎日を生きている，そんな日本人がたくさんいることを記しておきたいと思います．

    and gave it to my 4 year old daughter and said "You can hear the ocean if you put this to your ear." She placed the shell to her ear and screamed.
